Understanding "Hide My Map" in Scaletra
"Hide My Map" is a powerful privacy feature in Scaletra that lets you control who can see your trail maps from recorded activities. When enabled, your GPS routes and trails remain hidden from other users, while your photos, comments, and general activity details remain visible.
How It Works
- ON: Your map and GPS route will be private, but people can still see your activity details like distance, duration, and any uploaded photos or comments.
- OFF: Your map will be visible to others, based on your selected activity privacy settings (Everyone, Followers Only, or No One).
Why Use "Hide My Map"?
Privacy Protection – Keep your favorite spots, personal locations, or frequently visited trails hidden.
Security – Avoid revealing sensitive or private locations to other users.
Control – You decide whether your maps are public or private.
How to Enable or Disable "Hide My Map"
- Go to Settings > Privacy Settings.
- Toggle "Hide My Map" ON or OFF.
- This setting will now apply to all newly recorded activities.
Important: This will not change the visibility of past activities. If you want to hide the map for older activities, you’ll need to edit them manually.
Hiding the Map for a Single Activity
If you don’t want to enable the setting permanently, you can hide the map for a single activity:
- After recording an activity, before saving, look for the "Hide My Map" option.
- Enable it to keep that specific activity’s route private.
Effect on Data Aggregation
Turning "Hide My Map" ON excludes your location data from aggregated reports and insights. This means:
- Your trails will not contribute to public heatmaps or shared route trends.
- Your GPS data will not be used in system-wide activity analysis.
- Other non-location-based details (distance, time, elevation, etc.) may still contribute to general Scaletra statistics.
By using "Hide My Map", you gain full control over your GPS data while still enjoying Scaletra's community and tracking features!
